Snyder Counseling Services is owned and operated by Megan Snyder, LPC, CAADC, NCC. Her education included a bachelors degree in Psychology from University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in 2011 followed by a masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2013. Megan is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Pennsylvania, Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC), and National Certified Counselor (NCC).
She began her career focusing on mental health while working with children and adolescents enrolled in a school based program, as well as with adults in a community day program. Later, Megan began specializing in substance use at an inpatient drug and alcohol treatment facility. She was also employed as a behavioral health therapist at an inpatient psychiatric hospital.
In therapy there is no ‘one size fits all’ option. Megan views the therapeutic relationship as a professional partnership that requires rigorous honesty and respect. She encourages people to engage in the counseling process by collaborating and giving feedback to ensure the best possible care. Her goal is to support people in building skills based on their interests and strengths as well as providing education to explore new tools.
Megan’s approach is a holistic model of treatment – looking at the whole person: mind, body, and spirit – providing the opportunity to get to the root of a problem rather than just treating the symptoms. She also helps others to understand how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors can be interconnected. So often, creating small adjustments in each of these areas can contribute to a big overall change. Lastly, understanding motivation and the process of change can be important. We are often the biggest barriers in reaching our own goals. Luckily, we can learn to stop standing in the way of our own progress!
